Ivica Smolec - Introduction Page

My name is Ivica Smolec. I was born 1954 in Zagreb, Croatia and lived in eastern part of the city. I studied and worked mostly in the western part. Since 1985 I've lived in Velika Gorica, near Zagreb. Electronics engineer. I like Zagreb and Velika Gorica, but I also like distant cities through which I passed. I like electronics. I like nature, rock, blues, original Latin-American music. I have a lot of loves and hobbies.

Writing poetry for my own heart (in Croatian and, sometimes, in English). Have started to write prose. My first novel, "Vode teku dalje" ("Waters are continuing to flow") won the literary prize award "Albatros" for 2004. You can read something about it here (only in Croatian). I've finished another novel and must begin to search for a publisher. I'm also writing a collection of children's tales (I like kids).

Last years I've been a member of Croatian Art Society "Spark" and have begun to present my literary work, mostly poetry, on tribunes, poetry evenings and festivals, radio, magazines and almanacs... I'm working in the "Spark" magazine as the chief editor, lecturer, reporter and poetry writer.

Since the May 2007 I have become the first foreign member of the English writers' group "The Inn Scribers" from Harlow.

Voluntary blood donor (till January 2008 - 42 times). As soldier I was at first as recruit in former Yugoslav Army, in Strumica, Macedonia, in olden 79/80, and then on Croatian battlefields near Petrinja in springtime 1995.
I hate any war.

Mrs Verica Peacock is a lady who was born in Zagreb, Croatia, and has lived in Great Britain since 1946. She recently published the true story of her life in a book called "The Find".
She is at the moment working on the translation of Dobrisa Cesaric's poetry
into English, when she gets permission, she'll try to publish it.
